I've opened an animated GIF, but I can't preview it. The preview toolbar is greyed out.
The preview toolbar will become active when you click an output file tab. If you don't have an output file set up then you need to create one.

I'm previewing my animated GIF, and paused on a frame. How do I find out which frame it is?
Select View>Animation from the menu toolbar. A floating window will appear showing each frame. (This is the Animation Sequencer, which makes editing easier.) You can then compare each frame thumbnail with the paused frame displayed.
